I have lived at and visited some beautiful places over the years. The mountains are my home and favorite place to be. However, the Island of Kauai is an experience to remember. Hiking to the Waimea Canyon was truly spectacular. A helicopter could be seen as a tiny speck flying between the vast canyon walls. The waterfalls were enormous and seemed to have a never ending flow. The green and lush plants were so large everywhere. Colors just seemed to be more brilliant on Kauai. And chickens would be found running everywhere and anywhere on the Island. Even in the secluded parts of the hikes they would scamper around. I found this quite funny. A real treat was coming across an orange tree with a fresh, untouched orange. I picked it and it was the most juiciest and delicious fruit I have ever ate before. Speaking of fruit, until Hawaii I have never had a better pineapple, guava, or banana before. Guava indeed is something I got hooked on. Guava is to Hawaii as Huckleberries are to Montana! Another wonderful place to visit was the Kilauea Lighthouse. The history of lighthouses is a romantic fascination. They are such a beautiful piece of architecture.
